Michael Bowles

French

Michael Bowles is partnering with POS Biosciences to develop simulations that demonstrate and optimize the use of nano (very small) devices for the separation of particles based on size. These simulations have the potential to impact the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. http://www.usask.ca/chemistry/groups/bowles/research.html

The main goal the research conducted in Professor Bowles’ research group is to develop the thermodynamics, statistical mechanics and computer simulation methods necessary for the study of nanoscale systems and the phenomena that give rise to their unique properties(…). Compute / Calcul Canada infrastructure is used to develop and perform molecular simulations to understanding how these nanoscale systems behave(…) Professor Bowles’ group also published work studying the flow of particles through nanoscale channels and is currently partnering with Saskatchewan based company POS Biosciences in an effort to develop simulations that help demonstrate and optimize the use of nanoscale devices for the separation of particles based on size. The results of this research have the potential to impact Canadians by improving our ability to produce the high purity bio-products used in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries. The research would not be possible without the Compute / Calcul Canada infrastructure because we require the high performance computing facilities to carry out the extensive molecular simulations needed to test newly developed theoretical models for both nucleation and confined particle flow.
