Wagdi Habashi has created in-flight icing simulation software that is commercially available via a spin-off, Newmerical Technologies International, of which he is president. http://newmerical.com/profile/
This research is focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Last year, our research activities made major advances for in-flight icing modelling and its adoption in the certification process, and new optimization techniques for ice protection systems. This research would not be possible without Compute Canada infrastructure because of the magnitude of the calculations needed and the foreboding development time needed were it not for the readily available supercomputing time. One can say with great confidence that the advances brought in by the availability of such computing power have been a tremendous boost to Canadian research, with trickle-down effects on Canadian industry; very sensible ones in the case of the McGill CFD Lab.
