Jeffrey Bergthorson has a collaboration with Rolls Royce Canada and Pratt & Whitney to develop advanced design tools for low-emission combustors (for power-generation and aviation).

Our research on the fundamental flame properties of gaseous and liquid biofuels over the past few years, in collaboration with Rolls-Royce Canada (RRC) and Pratt & Whitney Canada (PWC), has focused on developing improved experiments to test model predictions. During the past year, Compute Canada infrastructure was used to model the multidimensional structure of flames in HRB, and included the publication and submission of journal papers. The results of our proposed research on turbulent flames will facilitate the use of alternative fuels in industrial gas-turbine engines for power-generation applications (RRC) and for aviation (PWC), with the associated environmental and economic benefits. The research would not be possible without Compute Canada infrastructure because we do not have any high-performance computing resources in our research group.
