Christian Gagné

Christian Gagné aims to enable autonomic computing with the help of intelligent systems – systems that automatically learn, and whose algorithms evolve. His research has yielded two tools (SCHNAPS and DEAP) that could help in the creation of better industrial and governmental systems.

My research focuses on the engineering of distributed intelligent systems, particularly systems that learn automatically and have evolving algorithms. Compute Canada’s infrastructure is used to perform the very intensive level of data processing required by these methods[…] The results of this research could potentially impact Canadians by making current industrial, institutional/governmental, and personal IT systems smarter. In particular, the systems my team has developed could make sensor systems more efficient, allowing the systems to better interpret raw data from hardware devices. Given the considerable processing resources needed to perform and quantitatively analyze our proposed methods, our work would not have been possible without Compute Canada’s supercomputer infrastructure.
