Roadmapping and Planning for Growth

Compute Canada submitted its application for operating and capital funding to the Canada Foundation for Innovation this past Spring. The Compute Canada submission to CFI for Cyberinfrastructure Initiative Challenge 2 Stage 2 seeks $20M in CFI capital funding for expansion of the national advanced research computing platform. The proposal included a number of components, along with options for the levels of capital investment for combinations of components.

Highlights included additional capacity in general purpose, such as those being installed at Simon Fraser University and the University of Waterloo. Additional capacity for the large parallel system, beyond the current plans for University of Toronto, was also described. Cloud services are to be expanded, potentially including a number of smaller elastic secure cloud sites. Storage capacities and capabilities, including for deep storage, will continue to grow.
